Being a scholar specialized in Theoretical Philosophy, I would describe my current position as that of an “independent” scholar; a phrase that reflects a combination of factors—related to my personality and personal trajectory, along with the situation resulting from the (bad) contingencies of academic life—which make “academic ronin”1 a more accurate description of my condition.
Since many years I’m appointed as Adjunct Professor at the Catholic University of Milan and starting from the academic year 2024–2025 I teach a course on «The Religious Sense», which deals with the philosophical–rational premises of the Catholic faith («preambula fidei») at the Jobs Academy of San Paolo d’Argon (Bergamo). At the same institution, in July 2026, a colleague and I also taught a 10-hour pilot course on work ethics («Ergoethics»), which will be part of the curriculum starting from the academic year 2026–2027.
Ronin («wave man»,«swaying man», «man adrift»): in feudal Japan a wandering samurai who had no lord or master and travelled the country offering his service to anyone in need of a sword to hire. ↩︎
